Dab Rigs

When you find the perfect dab rigs for your favourite extracts, you’ll fall in love and you’re bound to find a favourite right here at Ali Bongo. Size isn’t everything with Dab Rigs, they are typically small compared to their flower bong cousins, this is because the smoke stays thick and in one place to keep the hits fresh. Each of the Dab Rigs at Ali Bongo include either a Nail and Oil Dome or a banger and sometimes both!

Why Use a Dab Rig?

Dab rigs are the go-to tool for those who prefer to use oils or concentrates for their cannabis consumption. While traditional methods like smoking flower or using pre-filled cartridges remain popular, many people choose to use a dab rig for the unique benefits it provides.

One of the main reasons people use a dab rig is the potency of the hit. Concentrates have a higher THC content compared to your standard dry herb, and using a dab rig allows for a large amount of concentrate to be consumed in a single hit. This can lead to a quicker onset of effects and a more intense high.

Another benefit of using a dab rig is the cleaner taste. Concentrates are extracted from the plant material, leaving behind impurities that can affect the flavour and quality of the hit. Dab rigs, especially those with a water filtration system, can provide a cleaner taste and a smoother and cleaner hit, making it a healthier way to enjoy smoking concentrates compared to regular bongs.

Finally, dab rigs can be a more efficient way to consume concentrates. Unlike traditional smoking methods such as using a regular bong or water pipe alone, which can result in wasted material and uneven burning, dab rigs heat the concentrate to high temperatures or its boiling point with the use of a butane torch (or electricity if you have an electric dab rig), ensuring that all of the product is vaporized and consumed to maximum efficiency.

Overall, the benefits of using a dab rig make it an attractive option for those who prefer to control the potency and purity of concentrates.

Types of Dab Rigs

When it comes to choosing a dab rig, there are a few different options for oil rigs available in the UK. Let's take a look at some of the most popular types of dab rigs and what makes them unique.

Traditional Dab Rigs

Traditional dab rigs are the most common type of dab rig and are often made from heat-resistant borosilicate glass. They typically consist of a water chamber, a dab nail, a joint for attaching the nail, and a mouthpiece. Traditional dab rigs are often customizable, with a wide variety of colours and designs available to choose from.

Electric Dab Rigs

E-rigs, or electric dab rigs, are a newer innovation in the world of dabbing. They are designed to make dabbing more convenient and portable by a heat source eliminating the need for a dab torch (or any other external heat source) and nail. E-rigs typically have a heating element built into the rig, which heats the dab to the appropriate temperature for vaporization. Some e-rigs even have built-in batteries, allowing you to dab on the go. Our personal favourite electric dab rig is the Dr Dabber Switch (and it's also capable of vaping dry herbs).

Nectar Collectors

Nectar collectors, or dab straws, are a unique type of dab rig that allows you to dab directly from the concentrate container. They typically consist of a glass tube with wax and a pointed tip, which is heated and then used to collect the dab from the container. Nectar collectors are a great choice for those who prefer a more direct and controlled dabbing experience.

What Should I Look For When Buying A Dab Rig?

When buying dab rigs online there are several things to consider to determine which one will be the right rig for you. The range of different features to consider on dab rigs is huge, so we'll break it down for you below:-

Size & Shape

Dab Rigs, just like regular bongs are available in many different shapes and sizes which generally will have an impact on your dabbing experience. Most dabbers say to go for the smaller rigs because as the concentrates are vaporized they can return to their solid form very quickly as their temperature decreases, if you have a large rig you can end up losing lots of your concentrates as they return to their solid form and stick to your dab rig because of the extended smoke path.

Smaller rigs don't have this problem because the amount of time it takes the smoke to travel from your banger or nail to your mouth is much shorter, so therefore the concentrates have retained a temperature close to the vaporization point and haven't had time to cool. As a general rule of thumb, the smaller the rig, the more efficient vapor, and value you'll get for each dab.

Material

There are 2 standard choices of material when talking about dab rigs; glass, and silicone. Glass Dab Rigs are the number one choice for looking to get the best taste and most authentic experience. Most dab enthusiasts would opt for a glass dab rig, it is by far the more common material, provides a clean and pure taste and it is relatively easy to clean as long as you keep on top of it with some isopropyl alcohol. Silicone Dab Rigs definitely are far superior in terms of durability but from our point of view, glass dab rigs are the best option of material when it comes to dabbing concentrate.

Percolators

Many dab rigs (mainly glass dab rigs) have percolators which help to cool down and filter your vapor, you'll feel the difference on your lungs straight away with the much smoother hits. Percolators are generally a feature reserved for the more expensive dab rigs, but they are worth it for the superb dabbing experience they give.

One drawback of percolators in dab rigs is that they extend the smoke path, meaning your dabs will have more time to dissipate before you inhale them, that being said there are some small dab rigs with percolators included which shouldn't cause any issues.

Budget

The prices of dab rigs on the market of course vary due to the large range of them. Set a budget for yourself and keep in mind the material, size & shape and any other special features you may want. which brand of rig you buy can also determine the price, for example RooR dab rigs are quite expensive (as are their glass pieces for dry herbs) but they are absolutely superb, whereas Chongz dab rigs have very attractive prices with amazing value for money; they'll both get the job done but it all comes down to budget.

How to Take A Dab

Taking a dab is pretty simple but does require you to be careful as the temperature of your nail or banger will be very very hot, so follow these steps with caution:-

  1. Heat up your nail or banger, you can do this using a dab torch. make sure its heated up so that the nail or banger starts to glow just a little bit.
  2. Let the banger or nail cool down a little, whilst doing this you can prepare your concentrates. Whether it's wax, oil or shatter, scoop a little bit up with your dab tool.
  3. Once the banger or nail has cooled down for a couple of seconds, place your dabs in by using your dab tool.
  4. Inhale slowly through the mouthpiece. You may need to move the concentrates around your banger a little bit to keep them dabbing evenly, you'll also want to place a carb cap on top for air control.
  5. Hold the vapor in your lungs for a couple of seconds before exhaling, and continue dabbing until your concentrates are fully vaporized.
  6. After you've finished dabbing make sure you allow time for your banger or nail to fully cool down before you handle it again. If you have an e nail be sure you've turned it off, the same goes for electric dab rigs too of course.
